The old African proverb, "It takes a village to raise a child", could never be more true when it comes to our foster youth. Often times due to thier situations foster youth do not feel a connection to the community in which they live. For these same reasons, we as the community, often know very little about what these youth need. Aside from a few commercials asking for donations around the holidays the foster youth are virtually an invisible part of out daily lives. These kids are far from invisble however and their needs are not limited to just around the holidays.
As a community, regardless of our location, we have the ability to make huge differences in the lives of these youth. Everyday we have youth in need our help and supprot. This can range from helping provide public transportation to providing work experience. Statistics show that currently over 50% of our youth end up homeless or incarcerated within 18 months of emancipation. Let's come together as a community and change the outcomes for these youth. If you are interested in becoming more involved or would like to start a community group please contact us.
We are currently in need of formal wear for both young men and young women, gently used furniture, new household items, and financial support to assist youth in paying for normailizing activities such as extracurricular school activities, job interviews, birthday gifts and many other items.
