"I don't really feel like I can talk to very many people about the struggles I am having with the youth in my home without being judged"
Current foster parent, Sacramento County
Often times foster parents, caregivers, and group home staff feel disconnected from the school systems, agencies, and other groups invloved in foster care. There is an obvious and sometimes tangible gap in the communication between these groups. This can leave caregivers feeling abandoned and unsupported when it comes to dealing with the foster youth living in their homes.
To create a support system amongst the caregivers and bridge the gap between the line of communication Courageous Connection has partnered with a Sacramento County School District to host a caregiver support and advocasy group. This group will meet on the first Wednesday of every month from 6:00p.m.-8:00p.m. The meeting will be located at the Laguna Creek High School Career Center and offer an opportunity for caregivers to not only speak freely among their peers but also address problems they might experience while working with foster youth. We have partnered with the Sacramento Child Protective Services and will be giving training credit hours and certificates for caregivers that attend the meetings.
